4Is there a fitness level required to start Pilates?
No. Pilates is for everybody from the sedentary to the athlete. If you haven’t moved a lot recently, Pilates can gently bring you to start building strength and increasing your flexibility. If you are already fit, Pilates can help you reducing some imbalances that some activities may develop, by working out more symmetrically and helping you strengthening the core muscles for a better sporting performance.

We have a course specific for people who are new to Pilates. Please check the Mat Classes section on our Classes Page for more info on the Total Beginners course. Attending a regular Beginners classes is possible too as long as the instructor is aware that you are new to Pilates so please mention this before the class. We also recommend to start with a 1 to 1 class in particular in case of old or new injuries and other medical conditions.

We always expect to know that your doctor recommended Pilates to you. It would be beneficial in this situation to start with a 1 to 1 class to assess your movement and the physical limitations you may have. This way, we will be able to suggest the class that is more suitable to you. Another option is our Gentle Pilates class, thought for those who need a slower pace workout. More info on the Mat Classes section of our Classes page.

13What makes Pilates different from other activities?
Pilates is different because it’s non-impact and safe, and it really works on using the body as a whole. You’re either lying on your back, on your side or kneeling on the floor where it’s safe. When you move the body, you’re trying to move it from the powerhouse, using your abdominal wall to protect your back. You’re also working the body very evenly and symmetrically, making sure one side is not working harder than the other.
14What are the difference between Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates.
Pilates Mat workouts and Pilates Reformer workouts provide similar benefits as they are designed to train the body’s “powerhouse” — the abdomen, lower back, hips, and buttocks. The Mat-work, where your own body weight creates resistance, is highly recommended to Beginners because of the emphasis on learning how to control the muscles during exercises without the effect of the external challenge given by the machine. It is also recommended to Intermediate and Advanced levels as you’re constantly using and relying on your body only without cheating!!The Reformer, where pulleys and springs create resistance, can provide a challenging strength and endurance workout. It is important to note that at the beginning it’s necessary to have at least a couple of months of single or duet or triple sessions to familiarize with the machine and work with it rather than allowing the reformer to do all the work!! If practiced properly results could be seen very soon due to the stronger resistances.
